Purposes of
Committees

|
4th of July Parade

|
The 4th of July Committee coordinates, plans,
and implements the Annual 4th of July Parade for NWACA. It also solicits
NWACA business sponsors.

Crime and Safety
Don Jones, Chair
|
The Crime and Safety Committee coordinates with Austin
Police Department personnel to identify neighborhood crime
prevention practices, recommends courses of action to the Board of Directors,
and provides educational materials for NWACA publication.

|
Membership/ Communications
Shannon Meroney and Carol Dochen, Co-Chairs
|
The Membership/Communications Committee seeks to
maintain and increase membership in NWACA. It develops regular communication with neighbors
through newsletters, email notices, the NWACA web site, and Facebook
postings; coordinates neighborhood / networking events; and offers guidance
for educational campaigns on neighborhood issues. The committee also coordinates the deployment of yard signs by a team of volunteers.

Nomination

The Nominating Committee seeks out new members of the
Board and interviews them prior to being put on the biennial election slate
or to fill Board vacancies, and it nominates Board members to serve in
Executive Committee roles.

Parks
|
The Parks Committee analyzes the potential for parks, municipal
swimming pool, hike/bike trails, playgrounds, and other publicly sponsored
facilities of this type in the NWACA neighborhoods. It recommends courses
of action to the Board of Directors and provides educational material for
NWACA publication.

Transportation
Ernie Saulmon and Shelley Zent, Co-Chairs
|
The Transportation Committee addresses neighborhood
transportation concerns such as safety, cut-through traffic, street lighting,
sidewalks, street signage, and other related matters.
|
|
Tree and Environmental Stewardship
John Warden, Chair
|
The Tree and Environmental Stewardship Committee promotes
the NWACA Oak Wilt Suppression Program of prevention and containment
practices. It provides guidance on how to establish and maintain healthy
trees, taking into consideration threats from drought, pests, and wildlife. The committee monitors local
concerns about responsible use of water and other resources. It identifies good
practices and educates the neighborhood about sound approaches to environment
challenges.

Wildfire Prevention

The Wildfire Prevention Committee coordinates with the Austin Fire Department's Wildfire Division personnel to establish NWACA as a Firewise Community, enabling local residents to make their homes fire-adapted and resistant to the threat of wildfire.

Wildlife Management
Joyce Statz and Paul Trulove, Co-Chairs
|
The Wildlife Management Committee deals with issues
related to wildlife in our neighborhood where that wildlife affects safety of
residents and their pets, preservation of residents' property, safe travel
through our neighborhood, and other matters related to quality of life. The
committee reviews input from NWACA members and wildlife experts, reviews
options, and recommends action by the Board.

Zoning
Ann Denkler

The Zoning Committee recommends to the Board of
Directors any action necessary to protect NWACA member interests regarding
requests for site plan variances, new subdivisions and re-zonings within and
sometimes adjacent to, the NWACA boundaries. Once a position has been taken
by the Association, the Zoning Committee advocates the NWACA position with
the City Planning Department, the Board of Adjustment, the Zoning Commission
and the City Council, and the applicant.
